Accommodative hysteresis: a precursor for induced myopia?
نویسنده
چکیده
After an 8-min fixation period, the dark focus of accommodation of 12 emmetropes either increased by -0.34 diopters (D) or relaxed by 0.21D depending upon whether the fixation target was at the near point or far point, respectively. No significant shifts occurred after fixation at the distance of the subject's dark focus. The obtained shifts had long time-constants as measured after 16 min in darkness. Decay was much slower after near point (tau = 123.1 min) rather than far point (tau = 14.4 min) fixation.

Accommodation functions: Co-dependency and relationship to refractive error
We assessed the extent to which different accommodative functions are correlated and whether accommodative functions predict the refractive error or the progression of myopia over a 12 month period in 64 young adults (30 myopes and 34 non-myopes). The functions were: amplitude of accommodation; monocular and binocular accommodative facility (6 m and 40 cm); monocular and binocular accommodative...
متن کاملDynamic accommodation and myopia.
PURPOSE Accommodative effort during nearwork is thought to be a causative factor in the development of myopia. It has been proposed that an anomaly in autonomic control may be a precursor to the development of myopia. In the present study the closed-loop accommodation response after variations in fixation period was investigated in emmetropes, early-onset myopes and late-onset myopes to determi...
متن کاملVisual field does not affect steady-state accommodative response and near-work induced transient myopia
To investigate whether or not peripheral retinal defocus contributes to the refractive development of myopia by influencing the overall accommodative function. The steady-state accommodative stimulus response curve (ASRC) and the near-work induced transient myopia (NITM) after a near visual task were compared between different visual field conditions in emmetropes (EMMs), stable myopes (SMs) an...
متن کاملThe effect of topical β-adrenoceptor antagonists on accommodation in emmetropia and myopia
Using topical instillation of non-selective and selective beta-adrenoceptor antagonists we examine the proposal that a deficit in inhibitory sympathetic innervation of ciliary smooth muscle may be a specific precursor to the onset and development of late-onset myopia (LOM). Post-task accommodative hysteresis, a possible consequence of such a deficit, was assessed by measuring the time-course of...
متن کاملNight myopia is reduced in binocular vision.
Night myopia, which is a shift in refraction with light level, has been widely studied but still lacks a complete understanding. We used a new infrared open-view binocular Hartmann-Shack wave front sensor to quantify night myopia under monocular and natural binocular viewing conditions. Both eyes' accommodative response, aberrations, pupil diameter, and convergence were simultaneously measured ...
